Diabetes Retina Clinic

Diabetic Retinopathy is an eye condition caused by damage to the blood vessels of the retina due to high blood sugar levels in diabetes.

The retina is the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye that helps create vision. Damage here affects clarity and sight. High blood sugar weakens and leaks tiny blood vessels in the retina, leading to swelling, bleeding, and even loss of vision.

Symptoms

  • Blurred or fluctuating vision
  • Dark spots or floaters
  • Difficulty seeing at night
  • Sudden vision loss (in advanced stage)

Diagnosis

  • Dilated eye examination
  • Fundus photography
  • OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography)
  • Fluorescein angiography

Treatment

  • Blood sugar & BP control
  • Laser therapy
  • Anti-VEGF eye injections
  • Vitrectomy surgery (for severe bleeding/scarring)
