Do’s Before Cataract Surgery
- Follow all pre-surgery instructions given by your doctor.
- Use prescribed eye drops (antibiotics/anti-inflammatory) as advised.
- Keep your blood pressure and blood sugar under control.
- Take a light meal before surgery unless told otherwise.
- Arrange for a family member or driver to take you home after the procedure.
- Wear clean, comfortable clothing on the day of surgery.
- Inform your doctor about all medications, especially blood thinners.

- Don’t wear eye makeup, perfumes, or face creams on the day of surgery.
- Don’t eat or drink anything if your doctor has advised fasting.

- Don’t drive yourself to the hospital.
Do’s After Cataract Surgery
- Use prescribed eye drops regularly as instructed.
- Wear the protective eye shield while sleeping for the first few days.
- Keep the eye clean and protected from dust, smoke, and sweat.
- Wear sunglasses outdoors to protect from bright light.
- Follow up for all scheduled check-ups.
- Rest and resume activities gradually.
- Maintain good hygiene while touching near the eye.
Don’ts After Cataract Surgery
- Don’t rub or press your operated eye.
- Don’t let water enter the eye for at least 1 week (avoid face wash on eyes).
- Don’t lift heavy weights, bend excessively, or do strenuous activities for 1–2 weeks.
- Don’t drive until your doctor says it's safe.
- Don’t swim, use hot tubs, or visit steam/sauna for 3–4 weeks.
- Don’t skip medications or follow-up visits.
- Don’t expose your eye to dusty or polluted environments.
